Shuaibah 3 Expansion II  IWP


The Project was requested by the Government to be developed on an urgent basis to add 250,000 m3/d net water desalination capacity.  ACWA Power; the successful bidder for the Shuaibah-3 Expansion II IWP, was invited to submit a proposal to develop the Project broadly under the similar economics and contractual arrangements as the Shuaibah Expansion IWP. The Project is located on a reclaimed land south of Shuaibah Phase-3 IWPP.  The Project is currently towards Financial Close.


The Project is based on BOO (Build, Own & Operate) basis under a 25 years WPA agreement for the design, construction, commissioning, testing, ownership, operation and maintenance of 250,000 m3/day (55 MIGD) SWRO desalination plant and associated facilities.


 The Shuaibah-3 Expansion II IWP Project (the “Project”) is the second IWP at Shuaibah Phase-3 complex and it was developed in Saudi Arabia and represents a major development in Saudi Arabia's water sector to help satisfy the increasing national demand of water.  The Project construction phase will start in September 2017.

Plant Availability

Over the life of the Project, the Plant will have an average availability of 96%. Under the WPA no planned outages are allowed during the summer period or the Hajj period, since the water demand during these periods is the highest.
